Svetlana is a russian woman who came to Italy nine years ago to work and give her dear ones a better future. It has been a difficult decision: she had to leave her family and a good job at the ministry, yet her income wasn’t enough. She was born in Kazakistan and at 18 moved to Adighezia Republic, her father’s land.
I met Svetlana, in 2009 in Ferrara, the italian town she lives in and considers home. She works as a caregiver and she is the president of “Nadiya caregivers association”.
In June 2011 I went with her to Majkop, her former home, I met family and friends, I went to the village where her father lived and the places she’d been working in, and where everybody misses and loves her.
I don’t think she will ever go back, she loves Italy, she loves cycling around Ferrara streets and now that her son Vitali joined her there, she has a reason more to stay.
Svetlana è una donna russa arrivata in Italia 9 anni fa per lavorare e avere maggiori possibilità per sé e per i propri cari. E’ stata una decisione difficile perché in Russia ha dovuto lasciare la famiglia e un buon lavoro al Ministero, ma lo stipendio non bastava. E’ nata in Kazakistan al confine con la Siberia e all’età di 18 anni si è trasferita nella Repubblica di Adighezia, la terra di origine del padre.
Ho incontrato Svetlana nel 2009 a Ferrara, città dove vive e che oramai sente sua. Lavora come badante ed è presidente della cooperativa “Nadiya Badanti”. A giugno del 2011 l’ho seguita a Majkop, la sua vecchia città, ho incontrato famigliari e amici, sono stata nel villaggio dove ha vissuto il padre e nei luoghi dove ha lavorato e dove gli ex colleghi la ricordano con grande affetto. Credo che non tornerà più a vivere in Russia, ama l’Italia, ama andare in bicicletta per le strade di Ferrara e ora che il figlio Vitali l’ha raggiunta c’è una motivazione in più per restare.
